Page history last edited by Anonymous 2 yrs ago
Here is where you can find information on what you are supposed to do each week....
| Week/date | Readings | Activity | | Week one, Jan. 27, 2007 | Read Time Magazine article and introduction on narrative posted in wiki | Create your blog. Be sure to -- 1. Create the section about yourself. You don't have to use a picture or your full name, but tell us something about you, etc. 2. Post your first post, which is: What are your hopes and concerns for this class? Why are you here and what would you like to learn? | | Week two, Feb. 3, 2007 | Read the three links posted in wiki | Post twice to your blog -- one post in response to the readings (see syllabus for guidelines) and the other post about anything you want Post at least one response to the question on the online discussion board in Blackboard. Also respond to at least one other person's post | | Week three, Feb. 10, 2007 | Read the two chapters from New Literacies 2.0 posted here in the wiki. Depending on technical issues, I am hoping to have a podcast available to you talking about these chapters by Wednesday at the end of the day (A podcast is just an audio file of me talking about the topic). | Post twice to your blog -- once anything you want, and once about literacy/cies. How did the chapters influence how you think about reading? | | Week four, Feb. 17, 2007 | Read the posted links to the readings -- and I am hoping to get the podcast up by Wednesday again this week. | Post once to your blog -- your choice and respond to the discussion board forum on Blackboard. | | Week five, Feb. 25, 2007 | This week, begin reading Understanding Comics, through chapter 3. Also, create a personal page on either MySpace or facebook (you can create a page without your name on it in MySpace if you want) | Post to your blog about creating your MySpace or facebook profile: what did you think? What did you learn -- what surprises you? | | Week six, Mar. 4, 2007 | No assigned reading this week. Instead, watch the movie The Matrix, even if you have before. After watching it, do some quick searching online to find out what is out there concerning the movie and associated texts? | Post to your blog about what you found out about the world of The Matrix, as well as one open post (How's life? How's everything going?) Also post once to the discussion board | | Week seven, Mar. 11, 2007 The halfway point! | This week, please read the linked readings, by Gee and the third chapter from Lankshear and Knobel's book | There is a question on the discussion board to post to, as well as one assigned post for your blog: Describe yourself as a reader. Do you like to read? Why/not? How do you teach reading? How might technology impact that? | | Week nine (eight was spring break), for Mar. 24, 2007 | This week, please read the posted readings. The one by Lankshear and Knobel is a bit dense, definitely look up terms you don't know on Wikipedia. Also, as described in the email I sent out, please familiarize yourself with YouTube, and do some investigating -- who or what is Hopkin Green Frog? | Post to your blog what you find out about Hopkin as well as your thoughts on YouTube. Also, please read other people's posts from before break on who they are as readers, and comment on at least two of them. | | Week ten, for Mar. 31, 2007 | Just a reminder that we will be meeting face to face in class Saturday morning, from the usual time of 10 -12. Before class, for this week, please read as much of Understanding Comics as you can, and play with the comics software you bought -- either Comic Life (for Mac) or Comic Book Deluxe (for PC). We will be working on using comics and other visual texts in the classroom on Saturday, so please bring your books and notes. Also bring any other questions or comments you want to make in a face to face setting | See you in the ADP Lab in University Hall, on the first floor at 10 am Saturday. |
IMPORTANT NOTE -- ***Please check your Montclair email accounts*** Class WILL NOT be held this Saturday, due to a conflict with the COMP exam. The following weekend is Easter, and is technically a university holiday. Therefore -- class will be the following weekend after Easter, April 16. Papers will now be due on the last day of class, along with your new literacies project. Stay tuned for further updates.
